Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 17th March

Happy Paddy’s Day/Sunday to all you beautiful Galwegians! As is traditional it’s swinging from sunshine to sleet showers out there today so be sure to wrap up warm if you going parading! There’s a whole lot of music going on to celebrate the national holiday so pace yourselves 😉 Here are some of those gigs taking place:

Following on from last year’s all day/all night party, Electric Galway are following suit with another 12 hour marathon using their three dance floors to their maximum capabilities. Check out their FB for full details. Fun starts at 2pm!

The Salthouse Bar Sunday Music Session kicks off on Raven Terrace at 4:30pm. This session features some of Galways finest musicians and is the perfect way to get your Sunday started. There’s an early show in the Roisin Dubh when the always awesome Galway Street Club make a welcome return to the back room at 5pm.

Carroll’s on Dominick Street have their trad session inside the window going from 5:30pm. Richie Brennan and the Vibe Tribe get the old-school Rock & Blues going in E-Bruns Bar from around 6pm.

Sunday regulars Half Mile Down perform a special Paddy’s Day show downstairs in Monroe’s Galway from 6:30pm. It’s over to Il Vicolo for your weekly serving of Sunday Jazz in the company of Szymon Misniak and friends from around 7pm. The Humble Earthworm take to the stage in the Quays Bar Galway at 8pm.

It’s back to the Roisin Dubh where doors open at 8pm for these legends! Originators of “Gyp-Hop” (Gaelic gypsy hip-hop!) The Latchiko’s feature Aindrias de StaicMoisés Mas GarciaEsteban Moreno Valdés and Stephanie Keane performing a super high-energy show. Just down the road Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan can be found curating their weekly Country/Folk session in the Crane Bar from around 9pm

Half Mile Down kick off their second show of the day in Taylor’s Bar & Beer Garden at around 9pm. There are a few DJ’s doing their thing across the town for all you disco dancers and we will be hitting the stage in the Roisin Dubh at 12 midnight!

It’s going to be a green bonanza on stage as we gather together to make some seriously patriotic noise in the back room! Joining me to raise the crosier tonight… Bushkanga Rilla on drums. Bertrand Huvé on sax. Gabo GD on flutes. Barbara Vulso on vocals. Eoin Mccann on bass. Mark Sullivanon guitar and Banagher blues. Eanna Ryder on keys and Danny Healy on trumpet.

So there you have it folks. It’s another jam packed day in Galway and as always, should you make it to the end of the night we would only love to have the pleasure of your company in the back room of the Róisín Dubhwhere we will be doing our best to welcome in the bank holiday Monday in true Sunday night fashion! 😎
