Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 30th December

Happy bright sunny Sunday to all you beautiful Galwegians. 2018 has been a rough year all over so we’re holding out for an epic 2019! As usual there’s a feast of entertainment going on over the day and the musical community of Galway is on hand to make it a memorable one  Here are just some of the gigs taking place…

The Salt House Sunday music session kicks off at 4:30pm featuring some of the finest musicians in the county performing the very best in Folk/Americana/Blues/Swedish Gypsy music for your listening pleasure. Keep your ears/eyes peeled for the Vee, Kelvin BusherNoelie McDonnellNoriana KennedyMark McConvilleDave ClancyNicola Joyce to name but a few….The perfect way to start your Sunday!

Sin a Deir Sí continue to bring their high energy brand of trad to the stage downstairs in Monroe’s Galway at 6pm. The Vibe Tribe and Richie Brennan will be treating you to some old school Rock and Blues in E-Bruns Bar from 6:30pm. Il Vicolo is the place to catch your weekly serving of Sunday jazz with Szymon Misniak running the show from around 7pm. Pa Sheil and Fergal Mcdonagh take to the stage in the Quays Bar Galway to play all your favourites from 7pm. The SeshWans will be hitting The Blue Note Galway from around 7:30pm to keep you entertained or you can swing into Monroe’s Galway and catch Tuam powerhouse Mouse McHugh performing downstairs from around 8pm. Mick Flannery will be performing one of his legendary intimate shows in the Róisín Dubh tonight with support from the inimitable Susan O Neill [SON] This is going to be one of the gig’s of 2018 so be sure to get in early!!

Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan’s Country/Folk session continues in the Crane Bar from 9pm. Jade Reynolds and the The Rollover will be getting all musical in Massimo Bar Galway from around 9:30pm. If you happen to be across the river then be sure to drop into Tigh Neachtain and say hi to the lads…no music just a sound bunch of heads  Perpetually toothsome Turlock Holmes performs alongside the wild folks of Pyramid in the Quays Bar Galway from 10:15pm. Bass virtuoso Karl Clewswill be cooking the hits in the Dail bar from around 10:30pm and we will be hitting the stage in the Róisín Dubh at 12 midnight!

Well folks it’s been a wild week in the no-mans land between Christmas and New Years eve when the days run together and time ceases to make sense. Having survived it relatively unscathed it is my pleasure to welcome back the following noise makers to join me tonight in making our last Sunday of the year a very special one! On vocals Barbara Vulso. On guitar and Banagher Blues Mark Sullivan. On bass Eoin Mccann. On sax Bertrand Huvé. On flutes and pipes Gabo GD. On harmonica Maciek Zaworonek. On keys Jack Duignan and on drums, our very special guest Barry Duffy!

So there you have it. It’s another super busy day in G-Town and as always, if you guys make it to the end of the night we would only love to have the pleasure of your company in the back room of the Róisín Dubh where we will be doing our best to keep 2019 at bay for just a little while longer
