Galway’s live music guide: Sunday 26th August

Happy Sunday to all you beautiful Galwegians. It’s the last of the August Sundays and those epic autumn sunsets are just around the corner!  It’s looking a little undecided out there today but as usual there’s loads of stuff taking place around the town to keep you entertained. Here is just a sample…

At 11am Galways Busking Community take to the the streets for a day-long performance to raise awareness about the busking bye-laws coming into effect in September! They will be performing until 11pm on William Street (the top of the pedestrianised streets, by the statue of Oscar Wilde) so be sure and stop by to show your support!!

At 4:30pm the Salt House sessions kick off with Noriana Kennedy and a selection of her multi-talented musical friends providing the finest in Sunday harmonies and gentle melodies. Richie Brennan and the Vibe Tribe get old school in E-Bruns Bar playing rock and blues from across the decades at 6:30pm. Szymon Misniak curates Jazz at the Mill, Galways regular Sunday Jazz gig starting at around 7pm in Il Vicolo and featuring special guests from across the country. Open Mic Night at Róisín Dubh opens at 8pm upstairs in RD with the awesome Trass Bee and Steven Sharpe providing an amazing platform for all of Galways burgeoning talent. Monroe’s Galway plays host to Tuam legend Mouse McHugh downstairs from around 8:30pm. If you like the vibe of a sit-around folk session then get along to the Crane bar and catch Greg Cotter and Mary Flanagan where they host the friendliest session in the country from around 9pm.

If you find yourself across the river then be sure to drop into Tigh Neachtainand catch La Orquesta Kalamares Live Salsa Band featuring Barbara Vulso and Alan Preims. They will be lifting the roof off the place from around 9:30pm so be sure and get in early! Galway smile-meister Turlock Holmesreturns to the stage in the Quays Bar Galway alongside the gentlemen of Pyramid from 10:15pm. You can catch the bass virtuoso Karl Clews doing his thing with the Superfreaks in the Dail Bar from 10:30pm and we will be hitting the stage in the Roisin Dubh at around 12 midnight

Well it’s been a crazy week in bandcamp where, inexplicably, all the water in the house turned into wine  As such tis a slightly pious gang that join me tonight 😀 The noise makers for this evening…. Barbara Vulso on vocals. Maciek Zaworonek on harmonica. Mark Sullivan on vocals and Banagher blues. Eoin Mccann on bass. Bertrand Huvé on sax. Bushkanga Rilla on drums. Gabo GD on flutes and Jack Duignan on keys!

So there you have it folks. It’s another super busy day of music in Galway and if you make it to the end of the night, we’d only love to have the pleasure of your company in the back room of the Róisín Dubh where we will be doing our best to keep Monday at bay for just a little while longer!
